In September of this year, The Community Foundation launched the Women’s Giving Circle (WGC) as a way to engage women in the Inland Region on the power of community philanthropy. During the inaugural event held at the Riverside Art Museum, more than 50 women joined together for an evening of inspiration, philanthropy and connection.

The first member to join the Women’s Giving Circle was Gail Guge, President of Guge Marketing. Ms. Guge says of the group, “I believe that women have an inherent desire to give back and help others. And that if we can harness our power and work together then it will be multiplied in ways of real impact. We are stronger together than we are individually.”

Ms. Guge is also the Founder and Executive Director of Purple Hearts, an organization dedicated to helping women and children rebuild their lives from domestic violence. “It is a long and arduous journey to self-sufficiency for them,” she says. “It could have been any one of us and I would like to believe that our community cares about these women and children and wants to help them succeed. And what I have learned over the years is that it doesn’t take that much to make the difference between their success and failure.”

In addition to her focus on domestic violence causes, she has served on the boards of many of the Business Schools in the area. “I believe that education is key to giving women options in their life and the ability to be self-sufficient,” says Guge.

Through collective giving and collaboration, the giving circle is committed to improving the economic security of women and their families in the Inland region while uniting a diverse group of effective women philanthropists.
