What is the relationship between The Community Foundation and nonprofits?


The Foundation funds the work of nonprofits through gifts to causes and organizations important to donors and competitive grantmaking to fund strategic change and impact in Riverside and San Bernardino counties. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life in the communities we serve. We could not improve the lives of residents in the two counties without the work of nonprofits who do their good work to make a difference in people's lives.


Who does the Foundation fund?


Nonprofit, public benefit organizations with evidence of tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and not classified as a private foundation.


What will not be funded by The Community Foundation?


Debt
Endowment
Fundraising Events
Individuals
Religious organizations for religious purposes
Government entities for basic services
Projects that discriminate on the basis of ethnicity, race, color, creed, religion, gender, national origin, age, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, gender expression, or any veteran status.
Activities that occurred prior to the beginning date of the grant.


What are the available grant programs?


The Community Foundation offer various grant programs which are posted on our website under Grants Schedule, where a description of the grant is listed, a grant application packet due date, along with guidelines and online application form.


Can an organization receive more than one grant in a calendar year?


Only one grant will be given to an organization in a calendar year.


How do I submit an application?


1. Please read the eligibility requirements for the grant carefully.
2. Go to www.thecommunityfoundation.net/Grants and locate the link to the grant application. A login and password will be required and can be established at the beginning of the process. Please remember the login and password for future use.
3. Complete the requested application information in the on-line forms.


Can a paper application be submitted instead of those that are online?


The Community Foundation as moved to an online application process to reduce processing time and assure that our records are up to date and accessible. We can serve you better with the online process and do require an online application for grant requests. To allow for any technical or computer issues, you may wish to get started with the application early. Does the Foundation give grants to individuals?


As stated previously, we only give grants to organizations with 501 (c)(3) status.


What is the grant review process?


Applications will be screened for eligibility and completeness by The Community Foundation (TCF) staff. The TCF Grant Committee will evaluate eligible applications and will forward grant recommendations to The Community Foundation Board of Directors for final approval.


How will I be contacted once my application has been approved?


All applicants will be notified of the results in writing.
