Dr. Paulette Brown-Hinds is president of Brown Publishing & Communications and publisher of the family-owned VOICE, a community newspaper serving the Inland Empire for over 40 years. A graduate of University of California, Riverside, Dr. Brown-Hinds, earned her PhD in English and is currently an adjunct expository writing professor at California State University, San Bernardino.

An award-winning newspaper columnist and Knight Digital Media Fellow, Dr. Brown-Hinds has over twenty-five years experience in media, communications, and community engagement. As an expert in ethnic media, she is frequently a guest speaker for various media organizations including: New America Media, National Newspaper Publishers Association, and the Aspen Institute for Communications and Media. She has also taught at various universities across the country including: the University of Cincinnati, University of California, Riverside, Pomona College, University of Redlands, La Sierra University, and the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.

Dr. Brown-Hinds and her parents Hardy and Cheryl Brown were Spirit of the Entrepreneur family business finalists in 2010, and she has been honored by various business and community-based organizations throughout the state for her work in media.

She is a former fellow at the Salzburg Seminar in American Studies, Salzburg, Austria, and is a board member for the California Newspaper Publishers Association and Fortune Schools in Sacramento.

Dr. Brown-Hinds is a published academic author and is currently writing a collection of essays documenting the transformation of her family’s 42 year-old community news business.
