The mission of The Community Foundation Serving Riverside and San Bernardino Counties is to “Enhance the quality of life in the communities we serve”. In May of 2007, the Executive Committee discussed new initiatives for TCF that would focus on quality of life issues. An initiative focusing on the environment for the region, especially one that would positively impact quality of life in mature communities as well as emerging and future communities, was brought to the forefront as a major, new priority. The “Environmental Initiative” was approved in a vote at the June 2007 Board meeting and reconfirmed as a priority at the October 2007 Board meeting. The charge of the leadership at TCF is to plan for and launch a major effort to raise awareness and support for an Environmental Initiative that convenes and engages a diverse group of individuals and interests who are stakeholders in the environment and quality of life in the Inland Empire/Inland Southern California Region of California. Initial conversations with a variety of regional leaders, prospective partners and stakeholders have taken place. The response to date has been overwhelmingly positive in supporting TCF’s efforts with and partnering on such an Initiative.
Initial Intended Purpose of the Environmental Initiative:
Promote sensible, sustainable, intelligent economic growth and development, protect and support the precious resources and environment, promote environmental education and research and encourage best practices especially with regards to resource conservation and sustainable development. Also, engage the regions top philanthropists in a campaign that raises critical resources for the good of the regional environment, for ever.
Goals and Objectives:
- Create a neutral site and educate and convene diverse groups and create a synergistic approach and encourage a collaborative and collegial approach
- Raise significant resources and create funds and endowments to support efforts
- Raise awareness and become “go to” organization for regional environmental resources and information
- Assist the region in becoming a national model for environmental education, future growth, conservation and efficiency/sustainability and to make the Region a national
